keto-gummiesSuggestions on how to achieve optimal ketosis?
Have any tips on how to reach optimal ketosis? Trying a keto diet without gallbladder removal? What is its impact? And, in terms of not losing or gaining weight, what are your solutions?
Gain answers to these and other pressing queries in this week’s Question and Answer session with me:
Why am I not reaching optimal ketosis? I am being extremely strict with my carb intake (20 grams net carbs or less). I am using a tracking app called Carb Manager, and after reading articles here have realized that perhaps my protein consumption may have been too high and have set myself the goal of eating less than 60 protein grams daily. My tracking app suggests I consume 121 grams of fat a day but, still it can be hard for me to do that, though.
I recently acquired a Precision Ketone Meter. To date, my best results for ketones have registered 0.04 most frequently 0.03. What am I doing wrong? As an elderly female aged 68 years, my weight has steadily decreased since 3 months (22 pounds to date; goal of 50 more to go). Although Weight Watchers, Atkins, and many other diet plans were tried before ketogenic eating became my focus, ketogenic diet may just be what my body needed!
I am completely sugar and refined carb-free and am blessed to not have experienced any health issues thus far – all my lab numbers are normal! I’m being very strict! My goal is to reach 1.5mmol minimum! Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?
As long as the diet is successful for you in other ways, I wouldn’t worry too much about your ketone levels. Also, don’t eat more fat than necessary; that will only slow down weight loss. Trust both your body and tracking app equally (probably even more!). 😉

Keto without a Gallbladder
Hello!
I am new to keto and had my gallbladder removed several years ago. Are there any specific things that should be avoided when starting this lifestyle change?
Keto seems to work well for most people without gallbladders, although larger servings of fat may cause stomach upset or loose stools. If this occurs for you, try spreading out your consumption to prevent digestive discomfort and loose stools.
Best, Andreas Eenfeldt.
Alcohol Effects Unfortunately there seems to be much misinformation surrounding alcohol. Keto books often claim that drinking it adds calories. I would argue this is misleading: Alcohol has its own metabolism pathway through acetaldehyde and acetic acid; most alcoholic drinks (with the exception of beer and cider which contain carbs) have minimal impact on calories or weight – Wikipedia offers ample proof – in fact studies involving over 140,000 subjects indicate a reduction in weight after alcohol consumption among women; thus contradicting popular beliefs on this matter! Why so many naive about this subject?
Stephen May opines that observational studies should generally not be relied upon unless their effects are immense; therefore, I advise against trusting such research.
Alcohol can have an impact on weight, particularly beverages rich in carbs like beer.
Low-carb alcohol – What drinks to choose and which to avoid by Andreas Eenfeldt
Hi Dr. E: I am neither losing or gaining. However, I feel okay but am discouraged. My appetite has subsided, which is good; but I still drink three cups of coffee per day with heavy cream added (about 1.5 tablespoons for each). Additionally I take an antidepressant medication, cholesterol med, ibuprofen and inhalers to manage asthma attacks while working full-time and have a stressful job which has taken its toll; thus making me discouraged about losing or gaining.
If you are not hungry when drinking your coffee, I would strongly advise drinking it black or with just a bit of milk to aid weight loss. Doing this could greatly facilitate that goal.
